On May 13, a showing and discussion of my project “The Rule of Two Walls” will take place at the Garage Museum. The event will be held in the Rare and Fragile Books section of the museum’s library as part of the series “An Introduction to the Genre Through One Work, ” dedicated to the artist books.
The project is based on a real document from my family archive — the notebook of my father, a former military pilot. His work notes on nuclear strike preparedness share the pages with my childhood drawings of a house. In the book, these images are recreated as three-dimensional pop-up constructions that assemble into a dwelling, and the spreads are preceded by poems by Egana Jabbarova, who transformed the notes into poetic lines.
At the meeting, visitors will be able to explore the work in detail and engage with its mode of interaction, as well as learn more about the history of the genre from the library’s head Alexandra Urbanovskaya.
