Possible options for the final representation: souvenir shop installation, board game, guidebook, performative lecture
Paris, Berlin, Kassel, Arcis, Leipzig, Varna, Warsaw, Trebbia, Fère-Champenoise, Ostrolensky, Kvarken and others — almost 20 settlements in the south of the Urals, Russia, got their names from the European toponyms. Each of them is associated with foreign military campaigns of the Russian Empire in the XVIII–XIX centuries. In the project, Anastasia Bogomolova, along with collaborators Tatyana Pellenen and Olga Fedchenko, makes a series of performative trips to this peculiar area in the Urals. Started as a study of the boundaries of tourist experience and ritual practices associated with it, The Eurotour turned to the traveling through the veiled colonial narratives, connected with forced deportations and other repressive processes of the Empire. This trip is becoming a journey for seeking embodiment of the difficult heritage in new, alternative landmarks. In such sights and memorials that would fix a completely different kind of uniqueness of the territory.
